🧊 The cube maker of Monad

It poops cubes.
Monad makes blocks.
Coincidence? No.

The wombat is the only animal on Earth that makes cube-shaped poop: around a hundred a night, stacked on rocks to mark its land. Science gave it an Ig Nobel Prize. Then it found a chain that makes a block every 0.4 seconds. It felt seen. It moved in. It turned purple.

The lore

The legend of the cube maker

Everything about the wombat below is published science. Everything about Monad is, unfortunately, also what happened.

🌿🪨
Chapter 1 · The burrow

A tank that digs.

In the Australian bush lives a stocky little tank with a huge bare nose and claws made for digging. The bare-nosed wombat builds tunnel networks underground and keeps a backwards-facing pouch, so its baby doesn't eat dirt while mum digs. It looks slow. It sprints at up to 40 km/h.

Chapter 2 · The mystery

Why cubes?

For years nobody knew how a round gut makes square poop. A team from Georgia Tech and the University of Tasmania cracked it: the end of the intestine has stiff and soft bands that press the poop into cubes, corners and all. They won the 2019 Ig Nobel Prize in Physics. Why cubes? They don't roll away. The wombat stacks them on rocks and logs to tell the bush: this land is mine.

🛡️🕳️
Chapter 3 · The butt of steel

Built-in anti-rug.

A wombat's rump is a plate of hard cartilage under thick skin and fur. In danger, it dives into its burrow and plugs the entrance with its butt. Predators bite into armor. Nobody gets in. In crypto we call this not getting rugged.

Chapter 4 · Monad

A fellow block maker.

One night the wombat found a chain that stacks a block every 0.4 seconds, runs transactions in parallel and finalizes before you blink. It looked at those blocks and recognised family. It moved to Monad. It turned purple. It's still stacking. $WOMBAT.

Real facts

Not making this up.

■

Cube poop

About a hundred cubes a night, each roughly 2 cm wide. The only animal known to do it.

🏆

Ig Nobel 2019

Physics prize for working out how, and why, wombats make cube-shaped poo.

🛡️

Butt of steel

A rump of hard cartilage that plugs the burrow. The original anti-rug.

💨

40 km/h

Looks like a loaf of bread. Sprints faster than most people.

👜

Backwards pouch

Opens toward the back legs, so digging never fills it with dirt.

🦷

Forever teeth

Its teeth never stop growing. Grass all day keeps them in check.

Cube Stack

Stack cubes. Don't let them roll.

Tap, click or hit space to drop the cube. Line it up: whatever hangs over falls off. How high can your burrow go?

0

Cube Stack

Drop each cube on the stack. Perfect drops keep the full width.
